Sure. You can keep them. But they needa nice big plac to run around. They need food and water. If they dont have anything to keep them heakthy, ofcourse the animal may be put nto adoption and you might becharged. Becase this guy in Florida or California had a goat farm anf the were starving. A billy and a nanny goat were even foudn dead. He was almost arrstedt but the police are nice enough to give them another chance. By the time they came back tommorow the plac as cleaner and has better water and food. So I suggest if you have a chicken you gotta knwo hwo to tak care of it.

I am the head poultryman in the largest farm in the county (as ive said i dont know how many times now), let me see if I can help. Some major cities do have laws, du to the waste created by chickens, against owning poultry in a city zone. If you contact your local city chamber of commerse or your county agriculture department they will know the laws. If you can own chickens in San Deigo, some things to keep in mind are.
1. they can be very noisy, and your negibors may not appriciate it very much. Rosters DO NOT only crow at dawn., they will crow at the security light, if they can see they will crow.
2. You need AT LEAST 2 and 1/2 to 3 and 1/2 square feet PER CHICKEN, or the spread of aviand deseses such as cancar, or cocidioosis is much more likely. To many birds also increaces the rates of canabilisim, wich is a brutal thing often bringing death to the weakest of the flock of left undistubered.
3. Chickens, if not kept properly, can cause an odor, tyhat neither you nor your negibors will like. The fecies cant get wet and the coop area will need to be kept clean. these are just some basic things. If you need mor information contact me at yrbirdraisers@yahoo.com
sincerely, Waine

Probably not. You need to ask a city official or law enforcement officer. I would think that chickens fall under the category of "livestock". If they are allowed, there are probably some restrictions concerning living areas, feed, and waste management, as well as property limitations for you.

By the way, have you ever raised chickens before, in a city or elsewhere? They're messy, loud, aggressive, and flighty (no pun intended). If they have chicks, the chicks can easily fit through "chicken wire" and get lost. Chickens can fall prey to dogs or other, more "undesirable" carnivores like raccoons and opossums. Roosters generally have a reputation for attacking anyone or anything who gets near enough to make them feel threatened. (And, yes, it hurts. A lot.) Chickens like to roost in trees or other places where it is impossible to reach them. If you're raising them for food, the first time you cut one's head off and watch it run around for a minute is kinda weird. They're not friendly pets...they have their own agenda and internal hierarchy, which does not include you in any way.

in all probability not. you would be able to desire to opt to invite a city valid or regulation enforcement officer. i could desire to think of of that chickens fall under the class of "livestock". in the event that they are allowed, there are in all probability some rules bearing directly to residing aspects, feed, and waste administration, as appropriate as aspects obstacles for you. by using utilising the way, have you ever raised chickens earlier, in a city or someplace else? they are messy, loud, aggressive, and flighty (no pun meant). in the event that they have chicks, the chicks can certainly in intense high quality circumstance by using potential of "poultry cord" and wander off. Chickens can fall prey to canines or diverse, greater advantageous "undesirable" carnivores like raccoons and opossums. Roosters in lots of situations have a popularity for attacking each and every person or something who gets close to to sufficient to instruction manual them to sense threatened. (And, specific, it hurts. plenty.) Chickens decide to roost in timber or diverse places the area it somewhat is impossible to realize them. as quickly as you're raising them for food, the 1st time you decrease one's head off and watch it run around for a minute is kinda impressive. they at the instant are not friendly pets...they have their own schedule and inner hierarchy, which does not incorporate you in any way.
