Growing up i was always surrounded by parrots... My parents own a Congo African Grey and a Yellow Nape... I recently moved out on my own and I want something smaller... I've realized that maybe a Sun Conure is exactly what I need... I've been researching all over but I would like to hear from someone who owns one to get a feel for how life is with one of these little guys... Please help me out!!! Thanks!

Sun conures are one of the louder conures (but not compared to some of the parrots you mentioned). As you know they are quite beautiful and have real personality
I have a green cheek, somewhat smaller, somewhat quieter, less flashy colors, but a big bird personality. Mine has a few words and phrases(which he picked up on his own, we never tried to teach him any words): Jack's a good parrot/ hello, thank you, Hi Jack, Jackie, Hi buddy, yes. He also imitates some sounds.
With your experience any choice you make should be okay.
good luck

I own several conures myself a green cheek, sun and nanday, the nanday has a good size vocabulary, but the green cheek is a clown. you really sould base you nwxt bird on your living situation, if you have an apertment the green cheeks are very quiet but very smart, but the sun tends to be the calmest and most freindly conure/

I've never owned a Sun Conure nore know much about them but I spent about 30 minutes with them and fell in love with them. They are very precious if you raise it well. I think you would be satisfied with it if you loving a very caring and loving bird! :)

+do go to a place that has them and observe first. The conures are NOISEY alot and this will annoy you probably. research all their traits before you decide

call your local humane society and ask them to refer you to your local avian rescue. They will be more then happy to teach you what you want to know and possibly even find you the bird you're looking for. I know our avian rescue offers a 2 day course to prospective adoptees and I'm sure they'de let you sit in on one.
