She's right, soda is like the devil of all foods. They all have a TON of sugar in them. Not good, natural sugars that your body needs, but refined, process sugars.
There was a recent study done that says one soda a day (regular or diet) will make you gain 15 pounds in one year.
That's how bad it is.
Switch to water. If you need a sweet flavor beverage, drink those crystal light sugar-free on-the-go mixers.
You might even notice you'll start to drop a few pounds by giving it up. Or you might not (but you never know).

Sodas in general make you become addicted to getting soda after soda. A 12 oz can is 120 calories (not diet-of course). You might drink 4 of them by the end of the day. That's 480 calories on just liquid. Two medium sized drinks at Mcdonalds (in which a lot people do at Mcdonald's) is already 420 calories.
That stuff is a drug!!! It's addicting, and you can't stop drinking it. It does get you fuller though, but you adding more calories.
Yes, they are full of sodium which is bad for you, but everything has something bad in it.

Sugar, Carbonation need I say more?!!!
It's bad for you kidneys. Anything you drink is filtered by your kidneys. People who do not drink enough water usually become dehydrated, and even get kidney stones. Even if you do drink a lot. You have to get at least 8 8oz. glasses of water a day. Try this; every time you drink a can of coke/diet coke drink a cup of water after. So if you must have your cola that will help your body a lot. My doctor recommends one coke a day for me. That doesn't mean I'm say that's what you should drink. I'm just giving you an example. Hope all that helps.

I don't think they are all that bad. I would say if someone drank so many of them a day that their intake of water of affected, it would be bad. Yes there are some chemicals in diet soda. If you check the labels on other things, there are chemicals in almost everything we eat. As you can probably tell, I drink diet soft drinks and have for some time now and I am very healthy.

don't ya hate it when someone says something like that and doesn't have the fact to back it up? except for the liquid, they have no nutritional value at all. the sugar substitutes can be bad in large quantities, too. I drink diet coke all the time and am fine. just don't drink too much, like only 1 or 2 in a 24 hour period. drink water, juice, and milk too.

Sodas have a lot of empty calories. You might as well drink a glass of pure sugar.

Sodas have a lot of sugar in them and are very fattening. The carbonation gets trapped in the gut and allows bacteria to grow.

regular soda is loaded with sugar
diet soda is loaded with (believe it or not) salt.
read the label and you will see "sodium" mentioned alot.
used mostly as preservatives, color enhancers etc.
they are nutritionally nil, and have alot of chemicals for which no long term studies have been done.
In other words, sodas are bad for you, at best they do you no good....you are far better off drinking juice or water.

Soda is bad for you because of all the sugar and worthless ingredients in it.
This explains it all:
