My mom had surgery on her spine 2 weeks ago and she has been having bladder spasms ever since. The doctors have been giving her perscriptions that last for only 2 days because apparently it's strong stuff, and you shouldnt be on it long. It seems like they should be clearing up by now. Does anyone know how long they could last.

bladder spasms are not uncommon with spinal surgery, and they can be a life long problem from the surgery on. Is she being attended by a urologist? if not you may want to consult one.

Bladder spasm may ocurr following spinal surgery. This often, and gradually, disappears over a period of two or three days to some weeks. There is also, unfortunately, a condition known as 'failed back surgery syndrome' or 'postdiskotomie syndrome' This also produces a bladder spasm and this may last a considerable time longer. Considering the time that this has persisted, you would be advised to consult the orthopaedic surgeon or a gynaecologist -
Hope this helps

I had a tumor removed from my bladder and it was about 6-10 months before I didn't have any more spasms. However, they really slacked off in about 5 weeks and weren't too painful after that. Good luck and I hope all goes well.
