Hi Carlo! I read in your profile that you are currently in England studying English; you are doing very well. Knock, knock jokes are sort of based on fractured or idiomatic English; the way they are delivered they sound like they mean one thing when, in fact, as you hear the answer, they mean something else entirely -- that is the joke! Since the other answerers gave you excellent examples, I am just attempting to explain their concept to you. Good luck with your studies!

You're supposed to say "Who's there". Knock knock is the beginning of a joke and when you say "who's there" the person continues.
Example: "Knock, knock"
"Who's there?"
"Interrupting cow"
"Interrupting cow wh----(who)
"Moooooooo"

Well many knock knock jokes aren't that funny but that was just an example I heard on South Park.

Second Person: Who's there?
First Person: *Whatever the joke start is*
Second Person: *whatever was said* who?

no its knock knock and then you say whos there and then you say what it is because then it will sound funny. For example:

1 person: knock knock'
2 person: whos there?
1 persom: Mary'
2 Person: Mary Who?
1 Person: Mary Christmas'

Bye!!!
