The devil is at the root of it. The devil is anti-Israel/ Jew, and anti-Christ.
Also, on the Jewish side, many refuse to believe in Yeshua the Messiah. And until they repent of this, confessing, "Blessed is He who comes in the Name of the LORD.". Yeshua Messiah. If they would accept the Christian love and the Lord Jesus Christ, then God would heal their land miraculously. Right now God is preserving it to a measure, but Israel needs to repent for not believing in Yeshuah Messiah.
Yes, Israel needs to repent of their part of the crucifixion. Jesus told Pontius Pilot, "Those who turned me over to you, have the greater sin.". So, many of Jesus own people (Israel) rejected Him.

Norman Cohn (-Warrant for Genocide-) cites it back to the early Church Fathers, who were desperate to get their followers to finally abandon Judaism once and for all. So they wrote some really nasty things about Jews. (They also wrote really nasty things about each other -- the heresy debates are great reading for the geekily minded.)
Unfortunately, those writings were dragged out and used by others who had bloodier agendas, slander building on slander.
Group theory is the other half of it. For an in-group to cohere as a group, they need an out-group to define themselves against and dominate. (If you watch reality TV, you'll have seen this over and over again.) As a visible minority, Jews were a convenient and often available out-group.

What happened was that after the Holocaust, there were four problems within the Jewish community that were argued:
1.) Security: from Nazi Germany
2.) Psychological: They thought it was unhealthy to have them spread over the world in minorities, so they wanted a place to put all of them.
3.) Culture: They wanted to keep their own traditions
4.) Social Utopia: Peaceful place just for them where they didn't have to deal with the problems of other cultures.
The only problem with giving them the land (Israel/Palestine) was that it already belonged to the Arabs. This is why there is such a conflict with the Jews and Israel does not belong to them. Israelis are trying to take the Arabs land, just as the Europeans took the land of the Native Americans.

Some of our dearest friends are Jewish. I think they've been looked upon unfavorably because they've always tried to take over where ever they've lived and finally when they did take over someone else's land, they persecuted those people just as they had been persecuted. It's mostly their government and foreign policy that's hated and now they've dragged the US into their unfair practices in the middle east due to their very powerful Jewish lobby and now the US is being hated too. We've gotta stop taking sides over there. Nothing good comes from ignoring justice.

Good question:
Alot of people believe that it was the "jews" who yelled out "crucify him!" and caused the death of Christ. That couldn't be further from the truth, but of course Bible illiteracy runs rampant these days....
There are two legal ways to be a "jew", which is the shortened name for the Tribe of Judah.
First, you could be of the bloodline of the Tribe of Judah, or,
Second, you could live in the geographic location of the town of Judea.
Cain (yes from the Garden) was the direct son of satan himself. He had lots of decendants, who were called "Kenites", which means "sons of Cain". These Kenites were legally jews, but only by geographical location. They moved into positions of authority and were scribes, bankers, even Priests in the Synagogues;
They couldn't farm because of the Mark put on Cain - nothing would grow for them.
Anyway, these were the ones who were responsible for yelling that Christ be crucified, and that Barabas be set free, not the actual true Jews.
Since even the fact that satan has children on the earth is not taught in the churches, most people are completely ignorant of this fact.
But, it is cemented in truth in the original manuscripts.

They are a small group that is a mix of religion and ancestry. They have few converts, and don't actively proselytize. From the very beginning, they were very different in practices from their neighbors....in ancient Rome, many lived in small community-pockets and refused to work for anyone but each other so they could continue to have every 7th day off rather the standard Roman every 10th day off.
Over the years, things like this just made them a convenient target.

Something about them killing someones savior or some such nonsense..I don't know. They do seem to be the schmo's of the ancient world though.. It's sad. Generally nice bunch of people. At least they got off the hook, when the Christians noticed the Druids, got annoyed that they had all the land in Brittany, and yelled en mass "GET EM!!"

Jewish people have had a reputation for being clannish, taking care of their own, which turns people against them. Oh, and that New Testament lie about being Christ-killers added to the suspicion.
