I'm 19 and got my braces off in may of 2002 (about 5 years ago) and was wondering if anyone else still wears their retainers this long after getting their braces off? I had braces for 2 years. Thanks.

As a orthodontic assistant...we tell all our patients to wear their retainer at night....your teeth will shift throughout life and not wearing a retainer can cause your teeth to impact and have to have braces again :)

Wear them as long as you can. I had braces for years and never wore my retainers and my teeth have shifted so much I had to get new retainers to close up the gaps. I so wish i had just worn my retainers instead I'm 29 walking around at work with a retainer sounding like Elmer Fudd.

You are supposed to wear your retainers for life at night time-most people don't but you run the risk of your teeth shifting back-not to mention the pain and money for the two years you spent wearing the braces.

As long as you want straight teeth. My braces have been off for 4 months and I am a loyal retainer wearer.
