I have a parakeet who mated about 5 days ago. I read on the internet that once they mate 2-3 days after, they have eggs. Its been more than 2-3 days and her cere is not crusty, does it have to be crusty?

It is a sign that the are ready to mate. Birds lay eggs, they don't get pregnant. If you are not ready to breed, don't let the male and female together.

That means proper food, training on how to handfeed, proper nesting materials, and tons of research. It also means knowing where the chicks will go after they have weaned.

good day, Your budgie is a woman. A male budgie is born with a crimson cere and then the cere will turn blue over the years. a woman budgie is born with a crimson cere that immediately turns white or white/blue. Her cere will turn brown for the breeding season and after will turn back to white or white/blue. The male's cere does not substitute as quickly as they are matured.

brown and flaky cears are a good sign that they are in breeding mode. But if its not, and they havent laid eggs, i wouldnt worry too much, just keep an eye on her just in case.
