This answer relates to anything in life. you should be of the attitude that you always wanna be challenged. Why take the easy way. It's like they say fake it till you make it, and when you do jump to the next level. always challenge yourself. You'll learn more

Start out on the jr. high team. See how you fare. If you continually beat the competition with ease, then move up. Maybe for a couple of meets, bump up to the varsity and run in the relays and see how you do.

You will not be noticed on the jr varsity no matter how well you do......Varsity is what counts if it is scholarships and recognition you are after....competing at a level above your ability will drive you to become more skilled and athletic in your events. By the time you are a senior you will be on top of your game and likley in a better position to recieve a scholorship.

Start out on JV. Then when you get a feel for how things go on the track team, you can move up. If you are a standout athlete, you will shine regardless of which team you are on. The older teammates have been doing this longer than you have. Work your way up. You still have lots of time left.

jr. high.

Get some experience competing (and possibly winning) before going up to varsity. There's no advantage in going up to varsity and losing all the time to kids older than you.
