How much is a lot of money? Unfortunately when we try to cut corners we often end up spending more money. I have several people who spend hundreds of dollars on pharmaceutical creams, shampoos etc before coming to see me and then complain about the vet bill of $90! Cats get 'hotspots', areas of hair loss and redness, for many reasons. Number one in my area is , it is not a hotspot it is an abscess. The area is painful and soft and appears to ooze before rupturing pus all over your new bed spread (now you have a dry cleaning bill). Lancing and antibiotics $50. Number two is irritation from fleas. The skin is generally hard when this occurs but still red and oozes. Flea treatment $25. Other allergic reaction ('hayfever', food allergies) - depo medrol inj $16. Not everything that is safe for people and dogs is safe for cats eg aspirin and panadol are deadly at any dose. At the end of the day you sometimes get lucky but most of the time you get what you pay for. Good luck.

Clean the area and put some antibiotic ointment on it. its ok if she licks the ointment. You might want to figure out why she has started to scratch so much, maybe fleas. But i know this does work. Also cats carry ringworm so you might want to check to see if that's what it is. If so they sell over the counter meds. for that problem. Get the one for pets so its safe to lick.

Wash them, keep them clean and dry. Hot spots are very painful, so be careful. It doesn't cost a lot to have a vet look at them, so please do that if they get worse.
