I ask this because my 10 year old son has had a sudden outbreak on his face. i took him to the docs who said it was a viral rash - but no way (I didn't rate the doc at all). his skin is really, really dry & he does get eczema in other places. He also sometimes gets hives head to toe - very itcchy. I wonder if I should get him tested for allergies.

I agree Paul R. I tried a box of bio washing powder & instantly my son was covered in eczema spots all over his arms & legs.

Allergies can ABSOULTELY cause eczema! My youngest neice had head to toe eczema as a baby until we figured out what she was allergic to, the poor kiddo. Now she's had those items removed from her diet (one of which was TAP WATER, of all things -- cholorine!), her skin cleared up in a matter of days.

However, anytime she still gets a bit of something she shouldn't have, she'll get hives and then eczema again.

Get him allergy tested.... you'll be amazed.

Eczema could be triggered by an allergy to a certain type or types of food, but mainly from toxic chemicals found in products in the home!

Absolutely! Some of the other triggers besides allergies are sudden temperature changes, humidity, psychologic stress, illness, fibers, detergents and perfumes. Eczema is a superficial dermatitis, an inflammation and not an actual disease.

Yes, many times eczema is diagnosed instead of an allergy..the one I have experience in is a pet allergy. As soon as the pets went, so did the eczema...there are other allergies too.

it can be for instance dairy products etc to help resolve eczema you should use an unscented cream or cocoa butter as scented cream will iritate it more to itch also doctors say you should only bath once a day that is rubbish bath 2 to get dirt off of skin dust from dirt is the main trigger hope this helps

eczem, asthma, hayfever, they are all related and indicate a sensitivity in the sufferer to a diverse range of irritants. eczema can be directly related to allergies to food and treatment should include a holistic approach that exaimnes many aspects of your lifestyle

It can be. I had it as a kid, but it returned as an adult. My doctor told me it is a latent allergy.

Using gentle soaps help. Some people have a sensitivity to wool or other rough fabrics.

Newer technology like light (laser) therapy works for some people. Doctors like to try non-steroid treatments like Elidel before prescribing steroid creams.

It can be, but not always.

Mine is triggered by harsh skin products like some perfumes etc.

However sometimes it just comes for no reason whatsoever...

Your sweat can also irritate your skin
