Since the sun is the key element in skin color, try using a sun hat, parasol, long gloves, basically cover up in the sunshine. Use a high factor sun block on your skin.
If you have a different type of skin ie olive or darker skin, there may not be much you can do. There are some home recipes for bleaching the skin you can try. ALthough these are usually on recomended for already pale people who like the "alabaster" look.
There are some recipes for skin bleaching and freckle removal on this website. http://www.geocities.com/rainforest/vines/2010/gawthpallor.html

What is wrong with your skin tone? Some people who have very light skin go under the sun to get a tan.
Americans are light skin because we spend a lot of time indoors due to our long winters. If you want to get rid of your current tan due to sun exposure; than stay out of the sun. It is that simple!

Ha, we all want tans in North america.
Take a look at Micheal Jackson if you want lighter skin, you dont need that!! You could try a peroxide, but you'de probably come out funny looking and blotchy.

americans, for the most part, are not "light." white people are a minority (even though people w/ color are called minorities, the numbers do not reflect this) in america ...
but as far as wanting lighter skin, you really can't achieve that w/o a dermatologist's help. sorry. or make up.

I am an American with dark skin. I get compliments on it all the time. I guess stay indoors for that nice, pasty look and tons of sun block and tons of clothes when going out no matter what weather.
Americans, come in a variety of skin color and cultures; that's who we are.
