I found a feather sticking out of my plant pot, I pulled it only to discover a dead Magpie, what do you think put it there and why?

Could be a fox as they do cache food for later.

Generally the following animals will cache food for later consumption:
-- Coyotes
-- Foxes
-- All cats, domestic, feral, and wild.
Though a magpie is pretty large for a domestic cat to drag around and bury.
Or, do you have human kids around? Maybe they had a funeral. If the dirt around the pot is cleaned up to a reasonable degree, it's probably little hands -- most 4 legged animals aren't neat.

May be it was a cat.
