No, head of household status is only for people who are providing a home for a close relative who is a dependent, not just for themselves. Unless that dependent is a parent, the dependent must live with the person claiming head of household.

Below is the qualifications for head of household.
You do not meet these qualifications

You may be able to file as head of household if you meet all the following requirements.

You are unmarried or “considered unmarried” on the last day of the year.

You paid more than half the cost of keeping up a home for the year.

A “qualifying person” lived with you in the home for more than half the year (except for temporary absences, such as school). However, if the “qualifying person” is your dependent parent, he or she does not have to live with you. See Special rule for parent, later, under Qualifying Person.

Judy is the best answer so far. You must provide at least half the cost of the main home for a dependent for the year. That dependent must live with you for at least half the year unless they are your parent. See page 17 of the 1040 instructions for complete rules.

No, you must have a dependent living with you for more than half the year. If you are married, then file MFS (married filing separately), otherwise you have to file single.

the only way you can claim head of household is if you have a dependant living with you, otherwise you have to file single
