I don't think it's any of those that ppl have suggested so far like "I is lower-case L" or "O is actually a zero". You can confirm that by copy and pasting the above into a text editor.
I suspect the error lies in the statement of 80% of UCSD students couldn't find the error above.

it doesn't mean find what's wrong in the letters it means find the word error.. its a play on words ;]

I think that the error is that there is no error. A lot of riddles have that answer, so it is quite probable.

I think the things that are supposed to be capital "i"s are actually lower case "L"s, that's all I could find.

III is out of place the other letters are all in same order from the left. III is going more left.

ok after looking at it after a few times i started to see triple. lol
after A goes B then C and so on -- not A and then A and then A again then three times B and then three times C and so on.
