When you were young you would hear them all the time. Maybe it is the fact that you don't look foward to it as much as you did as a kid. The costs of the trucks are high as well with gas prices and the damn ice cream costing so much and being so tiny it's amazing that we still have a few of them here and there

There are a few around, but they are expensive to maintain. The trucks need to be plugged in all day and night. The bill for electricity is high to keep the products frozen. In addition, the price of the products increased. Unless you are in an area near a resort or beach, it's difficult to break even.

Well it`s been winter for awhile now, and usually ice cream trucks don`t so so well during the winter.
Also maybe the local kids terrorized the ice cream truck, for the ice cream truck to change routes.

I live in Ohio and we still have them. I hear them going around every once in awhile in the summer time, mostly. Also when I was in FL this past year there was one that came by our condo development everyday and parked right next to the pool...let me tell you...that music is STILL in my head today.
Ice cream trucks aren't around that much due to kids running out in the street and getting hurt. There have been a few incidents of kids falling and even getting hit by cars. Thats one of the MAIN reasons they aren't around as much

Ohh...that's so sad that you don't have one. I live in a small town and my kids LOVE to wait for that music to come around. They know it means ICE CREAM. They are still around in some places....
I know some cities are banning them because of the fear a child will get hurt running across the street or something.

We have one here in Northwest GA that I believe is independantly owned, which is the only reason it's still operating...I miss the old school ones, though. Those and the snowball trucks (as we call 'em in GA) too

I see them in my neighborhood all summer (Central NJ). The Mister Softee trucks run from spring through late fall in my boyfriend's neighboorhood in Brooklyn, NY.
