I'm interested in moving to GA near an Army Base. I have a career as a Registered Rep (Financial Advisor) and a soldier for the US Army National Guard. I'm interested in knowing which one is better for my type of work and situation (I'm single, no kids and also looking to meet new people and hopefully find a bf or whatever). I know people in both places but my decision isn't dependent on that. Thanks for your advice.

OK Columbus vs Savannah... I like nature, bars, outdoors, nice weather, beach... which one would have that? Either GA or move totally different, like Corpus Christie, TX

I live in Columbus, GA and work as a Civilian on Ft Benning...Ft Benning is nice and Columbus is a nice town...Ft Stewart is near Savannah, which is a very pretty town...I like Ft Benning better than I did Ft Stewart...but that is my personal opinion....

If an exciting change is what you seek, I would say try Fort Sam Houston. There's a broader community there and employment is almost certainly guaranteed in your field. I am currently stationed at Benning, which has more to offer than Stewart. I have been to Stewart for training, etc. and the surrounding areas leave much to be desired, the flip side to this is the beach area and Savannah. In regards to the populace, I personally prefer people that appreciate all aspects of living and if your outlook is the same, I have to say, you may not encounter as much as you would like in Ga.

Corpus Christie is a very pretty place with tons to do and see (you will never get bored) your two hours away from south padre island, and Mexico! (Whooo!!!) and theres Austin (the capital) beautiful place as well , all around its great area. My boyrfriend graduated from fort benning in Jan. and I spent some time in columbus in November when he had a three day pass. Ft. Benning is Huge....Wide Spaced. I didnt met too many friendly people there but that was just my experience. The only base i can compare is fort hood (which is the largest army base in the nation) and it makes fort benning look like a playground. Good luck with your choice!

I can only speak for Ft. Stewart. Ft Stewart is not far from a paper plant, which can mean for some odd smelling days. Hinesville is an arm-pit of a community (like most installation-neighboring towns) but Savannah is nice, has a nice River Walk (restaurants and taverns), and is on the coast of course as well.
As far as nice people, that's where I was introduced to the idea of "southern hospitality." I think you'll like the local population.
Any installation is in need of financial advisors!

I can speak for Ft Stewart....it is a nice community-I like it here, but as someone else said, Hinesville sucks. Luckily, Savannah and Richmond Hill are not far away. And that may be your saving grace.
Someone mentioned the paper mill....on post there is a water treatment facility...talk about "odd smelling"....yeah it is much worse than "odd." I live not too far from it too, so imagine being slapped in the face with poo just about every morning! Oh well, such is life.

How about Hunter Army Airbase, its in the heart of Savannah. And close to Fort Stewart. Lots to do, night clubs, good colleges, great food and close to the beach.

I was stationed at Ft. Stewart for four years, and had the opportunity to visit Ft. Benning on several occasions. I would put my money on Ft. Stewart as it is larger and has considerable larger towns near by
