Puss is an indication of a very bad infection, your cat needs to be on antibiotics. Failure to take your cat to a vet will result in gangrene and perhaps losing the ear (which will cost you more in the long run)
Good luck with your cat.

Get a thick towel, wrap it around the kitty and be sure to enclose the front and back paws. Encircle the cat tight enough so the paws won't be released and claw you but remember he has to breathe. Talk softly and reassurringly all the while you're treating the animal. Cut any hair around the wound - you can shave it if there isn't a lot of it - the wound needs air and light. Cut the hair short enough so it does not touch the wound. Dab it with a cotton ball soaked in hydrogen peroxide. This shouldn't hurt but will foam and will for sure, startle the animal. The kitty may scream - be prepared for some really pitiful sounds and yowls but be firm and just dab it for about a minute or so - until it looks clean. Dry it off with a paper towel then dab on a little Neosporin or petroleum jelly - no bandaid or dressing of any kind. Then let him out of the towel. You'll need to do this 3x/day for 3-4 days, then 2x/day or until there is no more infection (that is what is causing the pus to form). Kitty may hate you for awhile but he'll be better for it. You don't really need to take him/her to the vet. He/she probably got into a brawl with another cat or some other animal and got a scratch that got infected. (My cat got into a fight with an opossum a few years ago. She got a nasty bite on her neck that swelled up like a golf ball and pus was oozing out. I doctored her and she got better (she is now 22 and doesn't have much interest in anything except her food dish and a chair to sleep on). I also gave her small amounts of Echinacaea, 1/8 of a tablet of Bennedryl (to calm her) and applied a poultice but it took a couple of weeks of this for it not to swell up and to heal. You'll know when to stop treating the wound but it needs to be kept really clean for at least 4 days. Water and soap is messy and kitties don't like it a bit. The hydrogen peroxide in comparison cleans better and doesn't take much time. Your kitty should be fine. This is something that can happen often throughout the kitty's lifetime, males more than females and if they're not nutered, this and worse and will happen a lot. So be sure the cat is fixed and save yourself a lot of heartache and pain for the kitty.

I know a lot. I can sense you don't have the money to treat the animal. Contact the vet and explain the situation. Some give a discount for hardship cases. Others will make arrangements to pay over time. Lack of money should not prevent the animal from getting the treatment it needs. Call around and tell them what's up.

Well sounds like it is infected. take it to the vet and get it cleaned and and antibiotic. if you can not do this. clean it real well with a epson salt warm water rinse. clean it out the best you can. get some antibiotic cream and put it on it. you can not bandage it because the cat will tear it off. keep him inside as much as possible so it does not keep getting nasty. repeat this at least 4-5 times a day and if in a two or three days it is not 100 percent better take the cat to the vet. at least call and ask one.

If it is getting full of puss and not healing it is infected. You would nees to bring her to the vet and have them give you some antibitics and clean the wound well. Doesnt sound to bad but you dont want to leave it be and do nothing about it cause the cat could get sick if ti is infected which it sounds like it is.

If it's oozing puss then it's obviously infected and you need to take the cat to the vet and get it on an antibotic.

Pus is the sign of infection. This means that you should have already brought the cat to the vet. Call for an appointment right now before it gets worse and the cat loses its ear or worse!

I agree w/ alot of the answers! BUT, if it's seriously not that bad to where he/she doesn't need to go to the vet, you could probably do what they'd do at the vet.. First, you'd need to clean the cut w/ a wet rag, then w/ a cotton ball or swab, put some peroxide on the area (it wont hurt them, i've used on my cat b4) then maybe dab alittle bit of neosporn on the spot.. If it's a big cut then maybe put a band-aid on it, but if it's pretty small, it should be ok w/out a bandage!!
Best of luck & Hope the ear gets better!!

Definitely the vet. Wouldn't you go to the doctor if you had puss coming out of your ear?

He has an infection. Take him to a vet and they can drain the remaining pus and put him on antibiotics so it doesn't get worse. What you can do before you get to the vet is wash it with soapy water and keep it clean and dry.
