I know I am. Ive lied when i know its wrong. And yet, i teach my children not to lie. (just one example). My question is generated around comments ive read in some of the answers posted in this forum. It seems that alot of people seem to think that because someone is a Christian, that they have to beyond doing wrong. Or think of themselves as "better" than someone else. Were not. *Were sinners just like everyone else. Im not trying to offend anyone or bash any one belief system, but in the end, arent we all hypocrites on one level or another?
*(If a Christian disagrees on this point, or does hold themselves up as "Holy-er than thou"..I for one question their faith)

in response to asnwer provided by user : Me... agree with you that we're all hypocrites and I know Christians are above doing wrong but I do expect a person to be different when Jesus lives in them, don't you?
Yes i expect them the try to live differently. The unavoidable truth is the we will all fall short from time to time. My point was a meager attempt to show that the name calling of hypocrite is kind-of hypocritical in and of its self.

I like your viewpoint and I agree. I guess all a person can do is do their best. Admitting to shortcomings is healthy, especially compared to the thinking that one can do no wrong, which is what I see alot here.

I am a sinner. But you're gay and going to Hell and I am not because I believe in Christ.Sure, I sin.But at least I didn't have an abortion. That is murder. Not like when I went to war and killed the enemy because that was a righteous act.Yes I am weak. But not as weak as someone who has sex out of marriage.Sex out of marriage is a sure fire way to God's damnation.Perhaps I do break the rules. But not the ones that I have picked as being the "important" ones.I am a fundamentalist Christian.I am why people call Christians hypocrites.
The End.

The Christian is no better than a non-Christian, but he is infinitely better off. It is like two men on a plane, one of whom is wearing a parachute while the other is not. Neither is better than the other, but the man with the parachute is certainly better off than the man who is not wearing a parachute. The difference will be seen when they jump from the plane at 20,000 feet.
Jesus warned that if we "jump" into death without Him, we would perish. Even harsher than the law of gravity is the Law of an infinitely holy and just Creator. Scripture states that sinners are God’s enemy (Romans 5:10) and that "it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God (Hebrews 10:31).

I try my best to do what I say. Sometimes what I want, and what I do don't always coincide. A simple exapmle would be being hungover, and swearing I'd never get that drunk again, and then a couple of Saturdays being all "go shorty it's your birthday"
If I had to answer yes or no, i'd say i wasn't a hypocrite, but I have been hypocritical on rare occasions.

I would say that I try and study my intention before I answer a question so that I don''t sound like a hypocrite, however, I do know that I am working toward not lying, creating suffering, being selfish etc. That's a lifelong practice I think. Maybe one day I won't be a hypocrite, that would be a lovely day indeed. Best to you.

Everyone is a sinner and capable of hypocrisy...Christians included. This forum is frequented by many people who are more interested in venting and judging, than truly obtaining answers to questions or providing them. So I wouldn't judge the majority of Christians or Unbelievers by what you see here. It does not matter what anyone on this earth thinks of us. God's opinion is all that matters.

A hypocrite is someone that doesn't practice what they preach.
Perhaps you lied in the past but don't lie now. Teaching your child not to lie is not being hypocritical. If you were lying now and telling them not to lie...that would be hypocritical.
None of us are perfect...we've all messed up in one way or another.
That is why Jesus taught about grace.

I think it's because many christians spend a fair amount of time telling others they are wrong.
I don't think people just randomly pick christians or muslims and start calling them hypocrites....it's only when they step up on the soap box that somebody wants to come along and kick it out from under them.

I found out that I don't want to teach my children my opinions. I just need to teach them how to fit into society, and as long as I'm honest about that, they can't call me a hypocrite! Cool, huh?
