I'm christian and have learnt that when a friend asks you for something you must give double to him, but it's quite hard for me because I feel like I'm being used, what can I do to cope?I've already reminded them about the money once and don't want to do it again.
thanks

I'd ask them each one more time with a direct question. "I'm going to pick up XXXXX's gift today. Were you chipping in?" If they don't pony up you and you're in charge of picking the gift just choose something less expensive. If you picked the gift by committee and broke down the donation amount by that you may have to talk to everyone else and choose something else. Either way, you gave them one more chance to do what was agreed upon or change their minds.

When it comes time to buy the gift, you can either spend the extra money that you would have gotten from them or you can go a little cheaper. If you spend the extra cash, then you can just take the personal gratification that you got them really great gifts. As for the two who didn't pay you, just don't pu their names on the cards. Then the recipients will know that they did not contribute anything. I don't think there's anything un-christian-like in that.

Make sure you buy a card and have everyone who contributed to the gift and card sign it. If the people who have not contributed ask if they can sign the card, tell them sure if they decide to be part of the gift and pay their fair share. You can still consider yourself a Christian, I don't believe that God would like us to be taken advantage of by anyone.

Do NOT have them sign the card if the have not paid, and make sure the colleagues that receive the presents know the present is only from you.
