the thumb thing is funny....my friend and I would pull that when we met guys out - after meeting them we would say "Let me see your thumb...", and then give them the thumbs up or thumbs down!
If you look into a person's eyes, especially when they are talking to you, or answering a question, you can usually tell if they are being honest (looking around, not making direct eye contact, looking up to the left), or if they are shy (looking away and down), and by their stance if they are interested in you - open arms, leaning in, hands on hip - or not - hands folded, turning away from you, hands in pocket...
just a couple ideas for you to think about!

You can tell if someone is insecured, well behaved, strong, spoken out, etc..., by the way they speak, walk, sit, or even stand!

You can also tell a lot by the way they are in public but you must see them in different places because like me for example:

At work I am a Security Supervisor. I get to work early and make sure everything is alright before my officers leave from the previous shift and make sure everything is set for the next shift.....makes you think I am orderly and on top of things all the time, I love peace and quiet and being alone!!
At home I lag and although exercise I also drink or smoke weed, and either I invite people over or go out because need company, my room is a mess and I am 30!!

I try to be a gentle guy and frinedly but can be an icehole and a cold and mean person if provoked!!

I am old fashion when it comes to say hello to everyone, shake hands with people, a little hug and a kiss to the ladies, open doors, girls first, hold chairs to ladies, carry things for them, etc.....but can do completely the opposite if frustrated, angry or stressed......or if I am simply in a bad mood!!!

I try to avoid fightig when in a good mood but may try to start a fight if I am in a bad mood........

the average people you can tell but I guess I can be very deceiving.....but you can also tell if someone is lying depending on their language, the way they physically act or their eyes!!!

I hope that is what you were meaning to ask.....and hopefuly it can help you somewhat with your question but you can also make it more detail and I might be able to read how the person is that you want to know more about!!!

Sometimes you can tell things by reading body language. An example would be is a person is sitting with arms crossed, it may mean that they do not want to be bothered, or that they are upset. Look at a persons eyes, usually you can tell if a person is happy or sad, even is they are making a neutral face. The eyes are the window to the soul.
Look on www.howtoreadbodylanuage.com or www.smarter.com. These should give you more insight.

you can but you should never judge the person by what they look like, some poeple can really suprise you no mattert what their exterior is.. ie. if a chick is wearing a low cut top and a very short skirt you would think she is wearing those clothes to grab attention (perhaps even a skan k).. if a guy has big tatts all over his body, piercings everywhere and a smoke hanging out of his mouth with a leathe rjacket, yeah youd probably not ask him where teh toilet was.. but if youre talking about body/physical things then i dont think you can, its not their fault if theyh are born with a big thumb, left handed, short legs, slinty eyes, crooked smile or freckles from head to toe - i guess if they had these things you might assume what they are like by how they live/deal with them - someone with a crooked smile, do they delibrately not smile anymore to try not show that they have a fault? or are the completely comfortable and at ease on how they look?

but on the other hand you can see someone who you subconsciously judge in your mind, they might look like the biggest arrogant snobs but when you talk to them they might be misread and be kind and sweet. for me personally i have to wear a work uniform and the difference between what i look like in that and my 'weekend clothes' its alot - i look like a totally different person, but i am the same person and no i dont act any different, its not like im all respectful at work and dont give a **** out of work im teh same all over but im sure alot of people would see me and think they knew me by what i wore..

It is true that people sum you up in 6 seconds and all of this is done by judging how you act, dress, talk and look. If someone speaks funny or not the way you are used to or like having some feature disproportional to the other would stand out. symmetry in faces is good because its more visually appealing. mm slouching is bad and also is judged so have good posture. eye contact is good and good open body language. um can't think of anything else right now but thats all that comes to mind atm. ^^

"Body" language can be quite telling. Many years ago it was attempted to be proven scientifically that physical characteristics in people could forecast criminal tendencies but that was disprooven.
People often reveal their personalities by what they wear...for example "doxy attire" or "floozie" or thug attire. Some just want to belong and make poor judgements. Going into a biker bar dressed as a biker but not REALLY being one can get you brutalized or even KILLED!

You should never judge a book by it's cover............... one of my best friends is very messy and overweight, but she has a heart of gold and loves life.

Although, men with very shiny shoes are always gay, or salesmen! Never trust a bloke with really white teeth either. Oooh and one other, men who can dance know how to move under the covers too!

You can usually tell their background & lifetyle, from the obvious ...clothes etc. Their body language usually explains a lot too. If they are open they are confident and vice versa. I like to think of myself as a good judge of character!!!!

I believe these things are some what true. The way someone stands, how they eat their food. I use to cover my mouth as I ate, those were low self-esteem issues.
