Their bizarre theology does include Jesus Christ in some capacity. But what they teach about Jesus Christ is completely incompatible with the most basic tenets of the Christian faith. Therefore they are not Christian. Being Christian means more than believing "something" about Jesus Christ. It means believing the truth about Jesus Christ.

Have you even read the Book of Mormon?
In the Book of Mormon, there's a passage that you may find enlightening. The writer, a young man says, "And we talk of Christ, we rejoice in Christ, we preach of Christ, we prophesy of Christ, and we write according to our prophecies, that our children may know to what source they may look for a remission of their sins."
Yes, that is the same Christ as in the KJV Bible- the Son of God, Savior of mankind, Redeemer of the world. The One who died on a cross and then rose from the grave 3 days later.
K- Until you have read the Book of Mormon, and asked the Source of all truth, I don't think you should be talking about it.
I really hope you're not Christian- you're not being a very good example of the Golden rule- treating others the way you want to be treated. Bet your buttons you're getting hateful responses. If I called you a pagan, you'd get kinda pissy, too!

I can only assume you are talking about the salamander letters. They were proven false not only by the church, but also by others as well. Mark Hoffman wasn't an active member of our church. I know this to be true because my father used to be what we call Hometeachers to that family. He always saw the wife, but not him. Also, the letters were kept by the church not to keep them secret, but to try and authenticate, or disprove them. They later were disproven and found to be truly horrible. This was one man who thought he could make money and show things about the church that weren't true. Sorry to say, but the letters have been totally proven false and have never been church doctrine in any way!!!!
We are christian!! What makes you a christian?? Is it belief in Christ? That he died for us, that he suffered as no person will ever suffer to give us the opportunity to live again, and to be forgiven of our sins? If that is what you think a christian is, then yes, we are christian. We believe in the same Christ that is in the bible. We believe in the bible, we read the bible. We believe Christ atoned for our sins and was crucified and resurrected. We believe it is through Him we are saved. Does that not make us Christian??
As far as the translation of the plates, isn't it said in the bible that with God nothing is impossible? If that is the case, then why couldn't someone use "special glasses" to translate something that Men of God wrote?? If Moses can turn a staff into a snake, or part the Red Sea, why can't Joseph Smith use something special to translate something? I don't think your realize how the prophets of old were critisized for what they did. They weren't look highly upon by most people. They were seen as magicians, or blasphemers, or they followed the devil. But yet, people still believe in them today, so why is it so hard to believe that there could be prophets on the earth today?
Also, it wasn't only his wife that helped him translate the plates, she only helped for a short time before other men started helping him. I don't know if you much about him, but he was a farmboy with what amounts to a third grade education. How would he know everything that was in the plates? How could understand it if it wasn't help from God?
As far as us becoming gods, we believe that we can become like God. That we- all humans, not just mormons- have the ability to become like our Father. We can learn what He knows, we can emulate Him. Just because you become a father yourself, does that mean that your father isn't your father anymore? NO!! I just means you have become more like your own father. That is all we are saying.
Please do a little research before you bring claims against us. If you don't understand something, and are unwilling to learn the truth, not just what anti-mormons want you to believe, then you have no business asking questions in the way you have. Please get some education on the subject and save us all from your embarrassment.

It is true, I have come to realize we are not like the typical "christian", the biggest thing is we do not believe Jesus Christ and God the Father are the same person/being - which I have come to understand is what most Christians believe. So no, we are not that type of Chrisitan.
We believe in Christ, He is our Redeemer, our Savior, our Advocate to the Father. We love Him and every ordinance and prayer is done and said in His holy name.
So are we Christian? Well, everyone has the right to believe what they want about us. We know what we believe and God knows what we believe and thats what matters.

I think it's pretty clear that no matter how much I tell you how much I believe Jesus Christ is the son of God, is divine, atoned for our sins, died on the cross and was resurrected 3 days later, as much as I can tell you how vital and important to me and the other 12.5 members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints - I don't think you will ever believe we are Christian - and that's fine, you are certainly entitled to your understanding and definition of that word.
But do let me suggest that you check where you're getting your info on us from. I've been attending this church for over 25 years, and there's nothing about a salamander in our doctrines - sorry.
For info on our basic beliefs, I think it's best to start here: http://www.mormon.org/welcome/0,6929,403-1,00.html
Thanks, and God bless.

Normally I'd say you are a raving lunatic, who the hell gave you the authority to define Christianity. But at the moment I'm more interested in certain political eventualities: I really hate Mitt Romney, and the fact that conservative Christians are shooting themselves in the foot over his Mormonism cracks me up to no end. So go ahead, poke fun at Mormons. I'm behind you 100%.

I am not Mormon currently; but I have heard none of the above assertions about Mormons before, either. In my present opinion; they are probably closer to the 'scriptural truth' than many people in the USA presently realize.

I've never hear a Mormon say they were Christians. They have usually made a point of telling me that they were NOT Christians. They put themselves into another category altogether.

The bible says...
There IS a path the seems to be right and they think it leads them to life.....But really it leads to DEATH.
Be careful who you believe in....and who you follow.
Jesus leads His children in the Path of righteousness.
The word of God is a lamp into me feet and a light unto my PATH.
