You've got it actually...if there was no death of Lazarus then there would be no need for his resurrection and then no one would have faith in Jesus. Substitute "Jesus" for Lazarus in the sentence above; and that's the essence of what Christians believe.

What's the point. God could just appear to everyone and then there would be no need for Lazarus or Jesus. Oh wait...I forgot God had to have a human sacrifice to himself. That darned talking snake!
