*he is the first boyfriend i have ever had. it is now my first year of college but we were together for a year. i've never experienced being in another relationship so i have nothing to compare him to. i just don't want to look back and regret that i never looked around and that i was being held back during college because i had a boyfriend. we go to 2 different colleges about 45 mins away which makes it even harder.

Gee, this was the pitiful excuse a former fiancee' used on me back in 1993. It was a lie then and you are lying to him now. He obviously isn't the "one" to you and you will never be satisfied with who you are with. My ex has gone from guy to guy in the past 14 years and still hasn't settled down, now that she's in her 40s. Her loss.

So, what do you do? Explain to him that you want to have your cake and eat it too, and really just want to see other guys because your self-esteem is cruddy. Be honest, you don't like yourself a whole lot, which is why you won't settle down with "the one".

I pity you, but not much.

EDIT: I saw your addition. That's still no excuse. If you aren't sure, BREAK UP WITH HIM. Simple. You can NOT have your cake and eat it too. Stop trying to justify it. Yes, I still harbor a bit of a grudge about this kind of topic, but I'm still right.

I don't understand either, if he's the one then you'll know if he's not then you'd know too. Obviously if you still need to see other people to find out then he isn't the one.

If you feel the need to see other people, then he is NOT the one.

i wouldn't understand that either if my man told me that. apparently your already sure he's not the one otherwise you wouldn't have to see other people. i'm sure he's not your first bf so you've already seen other people.
