He's exactly two months old today and weighs less than three pounds.

The person I got him from claims that he's a standard. I think he looks more like a toy or miniature. ?

Definitely NOT a Standard Poodle. Might be a Miniature Poodle. Mini Poodles are proportioned and squarely built dogs and should be no taller than 15 inches at the highest point of the withers (shoulder blades). From the withers to the point of rump, they should measure the same as their height at the withers (or reasonably close).
However, I must say that I don't think your dog is a full, pure-bred Poodle of any kind. He has some features that don't indicate a full-blooded Poodle. It's difficult to tell from pictures alone, and you may have to wait until he's older to fully assess it.

PS - the picture of the "true" 5 week Mini Poodle should be NO indication to you! That is not a 5 week old Poodle of any sort. AKC dictates that in it's guidelines ... that picture looks more like a Cockapoo to me!

There is really no way to really tell until he is full grown unless the person you got him from was truthfully sure. Go get your ruler out and take a measurement from his front feet up to his head, and look below to see what he is.

The Standard Poodle is over 15 inches at the highest point of the shoulders. Any Poodle which is 15 inches or less in height shall be disqualified from competition as a Standard Poodle.

The Miniature Poodle is 15 inches or under at the highest point of the shoulders, with a minimum height in excess of 10 inches. Any Poodle which is over 15 inches or is 10 inches or less at the highest point of the
shoulders shall be disqualified from competition as a Miniature Poodle.

The Toy Poodle is 10 inches or under at the highest point of the shoulders. Any Poodle which is more than 10 inches at the highest point of the shoulders shall be disqualified from competition as a Toy Poodle.

As long as the Toy Poodle is definitely a Toy Poodle, and the Miniature Poodle a Miniature Poodle, both in balance and proportion for the Variety, diminutiveness shall be the deciding factor when all other points are equal.

I don't consider him to be a poodle, at best a poodle cross, maybe bichon cross poodle but not poodle like at all. Size wise Standards end up as adults about 24" at the shoulder. Youe pup is far too small for a standard.
This is a picture of a mini poodle puppy at 5 weeks old, as you can see nothing like your boy I'm afraid.

Did you forget they come in miniature also? Not as small as a toy no where near as large as a standard. I would like to see him a little shorter backed (or longer legs to be in proportion to the length of his back though).
Miniatures are no more than 15 inches to the whithers nor less than 10. They average about 12-15 lbs give or take full grown

I'm almost postive he's a toy. I have two Standard Poodles, and although they were about that size at 8 weeks, they had longer legs, necks and faces. I don't know how much they wighed, though. Give him a little more time, maybe 4 weeks, and see how big he is then. Standards grow fast, and if he is a toy, he won't get too much bigger. Also, ask your vet! They could probably give you a good idea of how big he will get.

He looks like a miniature. The nose would be smaller if he was a toy.

You would definately know if he was a standard, they grow bigger than a shepherd.

Are you certain that he is 2 mos?

Get you vet to check him in a few months for any dysplasia. Your pup should have a stool sample taken...I can almost guarantee he has a worm problem.

..and don't be annoyed if he turns out to be a miniature. I had one when I was a kid, they are good dogs, very trusty companions. If you don't want him to look like too much of a poodle, in the future, as your groomer to give him a 'puppy clip'...this makes them look lean and cute.

Don't you know what the parents are?
I would have to say I think he is a toy from the size and weight at this age. A standard would be much larger and the proportions of his body would be different - not as round. Even the min. poodle would be larger at this stage I believe.

Either way, he looks cute, so just enjoy. If you don't have papers saying he is a purebred - what does it matter really?

I would suggest waiting till he is full grown and then measure and weigh

Often a puppy may be bred from 2 toys but a genetically they were bred down from a minature, depending how genes play out you could have an oversized pup that ends up as minature sized poodle instead.

I'd say he looks to be about the size of a minature, but he sure looks mixed. His legs and nose are a bit shorter than normal for a poodle.

i do not truly have a "breed of decision." i'm the hot proprietor of a Golden domestic dog inspite of the truth that. i have yet to hearken to absolutely everyone bash Goldens. like you stated each poodle available has its own personality. My grandma had one for 14 years. My brother and that i lived next door so we said Julio day-after-day. He instantly grew to develop right into a grouchy previous dogs. He hated to be picked up, he fantastically hated to be moved even as he became comfortable, and he bit my grandma more suitable than once. He could also flow after absolutely everyone else who got here contained in the living house that he did not understand. even as my cousin had a toddler my grandma had to placed Julio outside to stay in a shed b/c she felt he couldn't be relied on round a small toddler. My perfect buddy has a toy poodle named Ruby. She is the sweetest maximum smooth dogs ever. She loves easily everyone. My buddy stated she also hates being moved even as asleep, and that is the in reality time she growls. Your dogs are very wonderful. i could in no way call them gruesome. easily everyone looks entitled to their own critiques. do not take it to heart. in the journey that they met your dogs that they had love them too :)
