I have 2 Chow Chows they are 9yrs old and 8yrs old. Unfortunately two years ago I moved and pets were not allowed. My next door neighbor owned a house and took the dogs in. She took over complete ownership and allowed me and my family to visit them as much as we wanted.

Now the woman can't take care of them anymore because she was evicted from her house. They are currently staying at a friend’s house until my family and I can find proper homes for them.

Can anyone help me? I need suggestions, and they don't have to both be adopted by the same person.

Serious answers only, please.

Thank for your help

I tried asking my landlord if they can stay with me for a short time (I have a Bg fenced in backyard) I was going to offer to pay but she cut me off before I could finish and said "Absolutely not"
I put an ad in Petfinders.com I am just waiting for them to post it.

Thank you to whom ever suggested it.

Please don't take them to the SPCA, or to an animal shelter. Their chances are very, very low of being adopted, being that breed and that old... However, you can contact a chow rescue. They may be able to take them, if not, let whoever has them now foster them and list them up for adoption in the meantime.

If you want help finding a chow rescue, you can email or PM me... I'd be willing to help you search for one. Rescues love purebreds :)

If it were me, I'd start by sending a quick email to everyone in my email address book who I felt comfortable writing to, telling them the situation and any good things about the dogs.

I would also put up flyers at supermarkets, etc. offering the dogs free to good homes.

If I got desperate, I might offer to even pay for their food and medical care and make that a selling point.

I'd probably try to let my neighbors know, because what could be more convenient than having pets nearby where you could still visit them?

Put an ad online too (at websites where you can put free ads).

Good luck.

Petfinder.com - I'll be honest with you - you're chances of finding homes for them are 1 in a million...no one wants an old chow - let alone 2 old chows so forget placing them together.

Petfinder will at least give you a free place to post. If they are exceptionally well behaved and highly social dogs I would also try taking them around to retirement communities and assisted living communities in your area.

In order to make them more attractive to adopters, make sure they are current on all vaccines, spayed or neutered and take them to be fully groomed. A pretty, clean dog is easier to place than a smelly, dirty one! Also make sure you have toys, bowls, crates, heartworm preventative and a copy of their records to go with them.

don't take Ion's advice! Other then the other website ideas, and old fashioned advertising, asking your local humane society if they know of groups who specialize in Chow rescue, and putting home wanted brochures at local veterinarian offices. If you've been a good tenent for 2 years any chance your landlord would let you have one with a deposit?

Call your local newspaper. Put in an ad that reads
Free to good homes only. 2 Adult Chows. Can't
keep due to move. Then put your phone number
down.
Wait for the ad to come out. I am sure someone will contact you
wanting to adopt them.
If you lived near me, I'd adopt them.

just what ever you do dont put an advertisment in the paper saying free to good homes...because they wont get a good home....put them for sale for a decent amount of money......whatever responses you get are wanting a pet to love...they are willing to pay for them . now if you list them as free then your going to get a jack a.s.s that just dont give a crap....if all fails take them to a no kill shelter

FInd your local humane society, they can take them and put them up for adoption, or take down your information and put them up for adoption without necessarily physically having them at the shelter.
