Hmmm.... you are absolutely sure you have a male? Males are usually whistling at 2 mos. sometimes less. My little Tommy bird is about 7 mos. old and has been talking and whistling since he was about 2 or 3 mos old. My other 2 are females and they'll chirp a bit but don'w whilctls or talk at all. Best I can get fron them is a chirp now ant then. But that's simply the way they are. Females don't usually speak or whistle, some can and will but this is uncommon. Do you talk to the bird? Play music or something for him/her to listen to and imitate? Try the wolf whistle. If the bird doesn't pick it up, chances are very good you have a little girl. If you want to be sure, take the bird to an avian vet or to somewhere they do DNA blood tests (about $20). Then you'll know for sure. Good luck, sooz

I would try to teach him to whistle instead. Not the stupid ones like the wolf whistle. That gets annoying after a while. But really teach him to really whistle songs. Some cockatiels are much better whistlers than talkers. (Personally talking birds are really overrated.) They just say the same old tired words over and over again. But for whistling birds the songs are endless.......

The best way to train your cockateil is to take him in your bedroom or a dark room every night and turn off the lights and TV and talk to him. Say the word or words over and over again you are trying to teach him. It does take time but by now he should have already been talking. Usually they don't say more than a couple of words at a time. So if you want to teach him his name say Hello (name) and that is all you say, but do this consistantly every day. Are you sure you have a male? The females do not talk is my understanding.
Good Luck.

He may never talk. I have two male cockatiels, one talks and the other doesn't.

Just because they have the ability to, doesn't mean that they will. Sorry.
