The huge benefit in not believing that it happened is not having to also choke down all the other absurd propositions in the bible. Another benefit is rather than spending time talking with your imaginary friend Jesus - you can devote that energy to building relationships with the beautiful and alive people all around you.

This is another one of those "better safe than sorry" excuses. The logic for this argument is flawed because there are hundreds of thousands of deities out there and the same statement can be applied to all of them. No matter what you believe, in at least one religion, you are screwed.

It would depend rather on which scenario was true, and which was illusion, since I'm inclined to pick on that basis rather than what's on most comforting.

And if something's comfortable to believe, one should already be a little suspicious of it.

absolutely nothing.

hell is a misonception. hell is ceasing to exist it is not torture.

"whoever believes in me shall not perish but live an eternal life"

perish is to cease to exist.
to live forever in hell would be having an eternal life of tourment. which clearly we dont get eternal life.

for the record, pascals wager only works if atheism and christianity are the ONLY choices. it is negated as soon as other religions are introduced.
