K, just a secong ago I asked this question,
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AglpQfFaAcm8YHxeWcLzlUTd7BR.?qid=20070307114206AAXMO50

Some people state in their answers that if we allow gay marriage that its possible people might want to marry their sheep or their goats.

Did you know before women were given the right to vote in America that one of the arguements against this was that then next thing we would do would be to give the right to vote to cows and pigs?

My question is, when you went to go vote in the last election, were their any chickens? Any cows or pigs or sheep or goats in line with their voter registration card? Why do you think that is, there weren't any cows or chickens or hens, not one single cow was in line was there?

I'm only asking cause you know, I'm a big fan of things that make sense, telling gay people no you can't get married cause someone might marry their sheep, well, just sounds like people from the anti-women vote movement.

I guess this is the result of the religious vilification of homosexuals, they attempt to dehumanise gay people the way the Nazis tried to dehumanise the Jews.

Its a ridiculous reason to try to prevent gay people from having equal rights. To me it is simple to counter with the concept of consensual relationship. Two adults enter into a consensual relationship. A human and a sheep (or other animal) can not have a consensual relationship because an animal is not mentally capable of consenting to it. There is no way of knowing how the cow/sheep/whatever feels so their is no grounds for legitimacy in the relationship. This is why we have the age of consent laws for minors. Even in humans when we are under a certain age we have determined that the person is not experienced or mature enough to enter into some situations with full understanding.

I think they are grasping at straws to come up with nonreligious grounds for denying certain groups rights. They realize that is religious discrimination and looking for something else to justify themselves.

I don't understand how that's any different from saying that you can't lower the voting age to 18, because if you do, then you'll have to lower it to 16, and then to 14, and then to 10, and pretty soon you'll have to let infants vote too.

It's the same thing. People say that if you legalize homosexual marriage, then you HAVE to legalize polygamy, then you HAVE to let people marry their sister, then you HAVE to let people marry their dog... why does legalized gay marriage HAVE to lead to anything? I agree, it's a ridiculous argument.

It's not like straight people are perfect when it comes to marriages. I bet a lot of gay people would stay together and last longer than most straight marriages. I say let them be miserable like everyone else, let them marry! Love should have no boundaries. I don't vote but haven't heard anyone complain bout farm animals at the poles yet...

Yup, as soon as you allow gay marriage, all hetero marriages will dissolve, and we'll all be forcibly married to two men, three women, a six-year-old, a goat, and a desk. It's in the Bible, I'm sure of it. In the back somewhere, Titus maybe?

And we all know how easy it is for a sheep to hold a pen in its trotter and sign a marriage license at city hall.

To quote comedian Andy Andrist on the whole "But then people will mary animals" argument: "You don't have to put a ring on a pig to f**k it."

I completely agree with you. As I answered in your last question, this argument is just to offer justification for their judgmental, holier-than-thou attitudes. They are grasping at straws to support thier ridiculous notions. Do they not realize how ridiculous this sounds to say that people will be allowed to marry sheep? Gay marriage is for union between humans. They are trying to equate that with marriage between species. Come on!

The reason homosexuals cannot marry is the same reason cows cannot fly. Flying contradicts the definition and nature of "cow". Homosexual unions contradict the definition and nature of marriage. You can change the definition of "cow" to suit your purposes, but doing so won't change the nature of "cow", and cows still will not be able to fly. Likewise you can "allow" homosexuals to "marry", and change the legal definition of marriage so that they can go through the motions. But they still will not be married, and will never be recognized as married by those who know what marriage is.

Male human + Male human = human relationship
Human + sheep ≠ human relationship

If the church wants to ban gay marriage, fine.
But they shouldn't dictate legal marriage.

maybe those who say that would be marrying all sorts of things (like small children, or their livestock, or their sister, or maybe they're madly in love with their table lamp) if their religion didn't tell them not to.

it reminds me of how they can't grasp having morality without it being dictated to them, and i've even read some of them say that without the bible's commandments & the fear of hell they would be out raping and killing.
