I recently broke up with my girlfriend of about a year... The problem was that she was a strong Christian and I had problems believing what she believed. We both still care for eachother and I don't know what to do. I'm afraid that if I go back to her she will put me past her religion. I never asked her to stop practing her beliefs...All I asked was for a little attention. She swares that she loves me, but I just don't see it. So even though I believe that breaking up was the right thing to do, I just couldn't stand to see her with any other guys. So should religion play a role in me deciding my future mate? I don't think so. I think that the characteristics of the person themself are more important then some stupid religion......

Should it? No.

DOES it? Yes.

Religion and politics always come up sooner or later. Best to screen for it early.

Of course how you get along and the things you have in common are important, but if one of you is religious and the other isn't it could cause problems in the relationship. She is a Christian and has certain beliefs that will affect her decisions in life and even how she handles situations in the future and the same goes for you. It definitely is something to think about in a relationship.

My strong adherence to Catholicism is the reason that I have not been on a date in my 18 years of living. To me Religion is more important than looks, personality, money, or what a person thinks of me.

yes it should because as a cHRISTIAN man I look for Christian women. Someone with the same faith and someone that believes in my God. The God us christian serve, say's no one comes before him - not a boyfriend - a mother nor father because he is the sole reason that we live and have our being. HE IS THE REASON we wake and sleep and kept safe. but also with trusting in God comes requirements in which we are to live holy and think as Christ- meaning thinking spiritual. We also belive in eternal Life and believe that it's the place we are striving to get to. The bible tells us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers.( which would mean you), primarily because not only do you not believe but most likely you will eventually cause her to turn her affections from God. I think you should let her go and not be selfish or began to have faith and trust God.
If God is in the relationship then it makes it stronger because their is a covenant that we make with God. A covenant that would help keep the relationship honest and trustworthy. God is in everything when you believe.
