A day or so after I brought it home from the store, and took off the peeling, a lot was black on the outside, and around the core was really grey (is this some kind of mold)? This is only like the 3rd avacado Ive bought, so wondered if it had gone bad, or is this normal.

yes, it is bad. When choosing an avacado it should be dark in color and firm to the touch and the pit should give a little resistance when trying to remove it.

avacados are light green when they are not ripe yet, and darker green when they are ripe (on the inside). the skin should be black unless you uy the big green ones, and the avacado should not be too soft. i heard if you keep them in the fridge that preserves the freshness and keeps them from turning black. maybe you should get a better produce market.

Toss it, but I would take it back to the store and get a good one....Just talk to the manager...
