I've though about it myself. I think it looks really cool....I don't really know a lot of cons but like everyone has mention, it is such a superficial piercing that your body might just migrate it out.
It will definitely NOT effect your spinal cord, or your brain, as someone mentioned above, seeing as there is something called a VERTABRAE protecting it.
I would do more research about it.....go to google. Even talk to your local piercer about it. They are most likely the best person to go to.
But, if it comes out that it can more pros then cons, then go for it! Be an individual!

The big con is rejection. Surface piercings are prone to rejection even when done properly. Things like long hair snagging the piercing and innappropriate aftercare can add to this.
If you want to get it done here's a few things to keep in mind.
1. Go to an artist who is experienced in surface piercings. Make sure to see pics of HEALED surface work, not just the fresh ones.
2. Make sure your artist uses a surface bar. They are gennerally made of stainless steel/ It will be a long bar with two 90 degree bends in it. Disks will work better than beads for healing.
3. make sure your aftercare doesn't irritate it. Sea salt soaks 2-3 times daily, don't touch it otherwise.
Another option, which is fairly new, are micro-dermals. They are small implants, and have worked out well so far in areas that are prone to rejection. check out www.bmezine.com for more details on these

The only real drawbacks I can come up with are:
- Since you won't be able to see it, you'll need to take extra care cleaning it while it heals, as you won't be able to tell if it looks like it's becoming infected.
- Like most piercings in flat skin, it will probably grow out over time, so you may only have it for a year or so (depending on how fast your skin repairs itself).

well there is a hgh risk of REJECTION and migration. since it is a surface piercing. it can reject within a few years. or sooner. there is a high rejection rite with these piercings.. other cons if cleaning it. changing the jewelry (i dont know how you woudl change it on your own since you cant see it!) lol aslo can take up to a year to heal.
take a look at this site =]

it may be a little difficuly to sleep - you would have to be careful not to get it caught in any of the pillows and blankets.
it is more likely to get rejected or just plain grow out than other piercings
it might be hard to clean
you could get hair caught in it (depending on how long your hair is)

Hard to clean probably hard to put your head back hard to sleep and it doesnt look professional if you need a clean cut apperance for a job. Why not pierce your tounge or nipples some where no one can see unless you want them to see. If you're a girl go for your belly.

Not only would it look stupid but it would be a stupid idea. Too close to the spinal cord !! If that sucker ever got infected then it has a direct line to the brain.
