WD-40, the fish love it too, you spray a little on your bait, works great! You should also replace the line.

First, Water Displacement 40 (WD40)is a good choice, but its a petrolium based product that can dissolve certain seals in the reel itself. There are certain types of lube that are designed for fishing reels inparticular. Just watch out, some spots call for oil and others grease. If you put the wrong compound on the wrong part, there goes your warrantee and in most cases will cause the reel to not perform right. I lub/tune my reels myself with the grease that is reccomended by the manufacturer and I have never had a problem.
On another note, there are lubes that can actually increase the performance of a reel (so they say) I have little experience with them, but it does seem to add a little.

You can buy oil especially made for fishing rods. There are lots of reel lubrications out there; Abu Garcia, Penn Reel Lube, and 3-in-1 to name a few.

For your reel I'd recommend a quality waterproof grease.
Strip the reel and clean up the internals using either paraffin or wd40.
Then grease them up with the thick grease.
Don't use wd40 as a lubricant as it will wash away the thick grease.
Don't pack the grease too tightly either as this will have a detrimental effect and cause the bearings to heat up when rotating at speed.
For the rod my grandfather always told me to use a bit of lamb or goose fat. It works great and I've never had any problems at all.
