I had the same problem but heres what we did. Sounds weird but we got a little water gun and kept it handy so we could squirt her if she jumped up there. Pretty soon all we had to do was get up and act like we were going for the gun and she would jump off and then she just quit. Works for other stuff too like trying to jump out the door if its open and such. Good luck!

There are several ways to prevent a curious kitty from clambering up kitchen counters.
1. Leave a collection of poorly balanced kitchen utensils or empty (or with a few pennies inside) aluminum cans on the counter near the edge, so the cat will knock them off if it jumps up. Cats hate surprises and loud noises.
2. Leave some masking tape (or two-sided carpet tape) arranged gummy side up.
3. Don't leave things on the counter that will attract the cat (like raw meat).
4. Clap your hands really loud or express a loud hiss or a oud "No!" whenever kitty even looks at the kitchen counter. Do it consistently and he'll get the idea.
Once he realizes that the kitchen counter is not really a fun or safe place to be, he'll quit jumping up.
I'm not fond of the old "squirt bottle" routine. In the case of counters, the cat will be on the counter ong before you get anywhere near him to squirt him with water. This will just confuse him as to why you are squirting him with water and may simply concude that you are "nuts." hee hee hee

I can't believe how many people say to squirt water at their cats. Do you squirt water at your children too? How strange. I have had cats for nearly 40 years and have never squirted water at them. It just takes a firm voice (not yelling) and consistency. Every time you see the cat even approach the counter (or other place you don't want the cat), you just firmly say the same sound or word, like "No" or "Off" or just "Hey" - keep using the same thing, with a firm voice. It only takes about a week and they learn. Occasionally they will retest you, but if you use the same tone of voice and word, they will remember and stay away or off. It is like raising a toddler - no squirt guns required.

You could always try a little soft discipline, whenever you catch your kitten where you don't want it to be, do something it hates like loud noises to scare it away followed by a firm "No." It will take some time for it to understand the meaning, but after 5 weeks or so, it should get the general idea, you just need patience since cats are their own boss (I have 6 of them).

Every time it gets up on the kitchen counter spray it with water. I had one that wouldn't stay off the dinning table but it stopped after 3 days of spraying it with water when it got on top of the table. Hope it works for you. Good luck!

Get a spray bottle and put water in it. Every time you see the kitten on the cabinet just spray her with the water. Cats dislike water and it will teach her to stay down.

cats are smart. If your cat is anything like mine was, it will learn to stay off the counter, by spraying it with water, noise, etc., but it'll probably just start jumping up on it when you aren't around.

Squirt it with a squirt gun when you catch it up there. You can also bang a set of keys on the counter. Cats hate loud noises.

Put foil on it. Cats don't like it. They also hate pinecones. Also you could go to like a toy store and get one of those motion sensor alarms that are supposed to be for a kid's room that will make a loud noise when he/she gets up there.

If the squirting them with water works... more power to you, but my cat doesn't respond to that at all. She doesn't mind loud noises either. The only thing I have found to work is sternly saying "No."
