It is entirely possible that your doggy is just over-heated...husky's are cold weather dogs, and can get hot quickly and easily.

Now, the bad news..it could also be a heart issue.
Dogs with heart problems will pant alot...
also, since you live in Texas and texas is so active with heart worm it could also be that. Heart worm infestations can manifest in extensive panting.
take your pet to the vet and tell her or him about the panting, have her heart checked, a heartworm test done, and if those come up negative you may want to walk your dog during the cooler part of the day and maybe a cool water bath (not cold, you dont want to shock the system, just cool, like luke warm)

She sounds just generally out of control. A dog who's smart still needs guidance to learn what the rules are. I'm betting you feel a little embarassed by her beahvior, and also a little embarassed to be disciplining her when new people are in the house, am I right? Firstly you should consider taking her to obedience school.. it's a really good idea, especially in a breed that tends towards dominance and independence. It provides socialization, and gives you the tools to communicate with her in a way she'll understand, since she obviously doesn't at the moment. I'd also venture the opinion that she's old enough to konw better, and old enough that "turning around and yelping" approach might not be best. When she jumps, get a firm hold of her scruff, push her down to the ground... not necessarily pinning her, just applying a firm downward pressure. Say a deep voiced "NO!" at her, and release her. Repeat as necessary. You can attempt the same type of thing for biting. You must do this every time she jumps or mouths. In addition to a scruff hold which I find works great, you can try keeping her leashed (with you on the end, and give her a leash correction when she jumps all over guests. The leash approahc requires a little more finess, since you run the risk of being all paniced and shrill at the other end of the leash while your dog goes about her jumpy-mouthy treatment of guests! Hence the obedience school. It sounds like she's been positively reinfoced for this behavior around strangers before, getting attention and pets and play when she mauls the new people in the house. And finally only pay attention to her, and only allow ANYONE to pay attention to her (including looking, speaking, or touching her), when she's calm. If she's mouthy and jumping, she doesn't get attention, without exception.

Siberian Huskies aren't good with the heat since they have multiple coats. She pants because that's her way of sweating. What might help is sitting up a fan just for her on the floor for her to seat in front of. The fan helps to cool her down. I have a Siberian Husky also and she loves laying right up against the fan. Keeps her panting down to a minimal. Good Luck!

Yes, heartworm can cause excess panting in dogs and do not over look having her regular vet check ups.

You live in texas and although your house maybe air conditioned the world onside in not. Take her out walking the dog is not getting the same comfort that she has inside. Two things to try are walking her in the late evening or early morning before the day gets really warm will help with that. And depending on how long your walk is, take water, a small bowl and a bottle of water will help. Giving it to her halfway through the walk with a little time to cool down will help with that.

I live in New York and have had the same problem with my Chow Chow in Summer. In the winter he will lay outside in the falling snow, but in summer he lives in front of my Air conditioner. Changing his walking time to early morning and in the late evening has helped, as well as, a water break halfway through the walk.

I live in California and I have 2 Siberian Huskies. We have a small, plastic wading pool outside for them, and they enjoy getting in it when they come back from a walk, even if it's not really all that hot outside. Sometimes they will get in the pool and just stand there in the pool, other times, they will actually lay down in the pool. Maybe take her to the vet and get her checked out if it continues to be a problem. Good Luck!

She sounds as though she has a kidney infection. The heavy panting a thirst are an indicator. Take her to the vet. They will keep her for a few hours, so that they can get a pee-sample...(her cage is lined in a absorbant pad).

It is important that she be screened asap. Kidney problems sneek up on Siberians very fast.

She will also be screened for a urinary infection...but I am betting something is up with the kidneys.

Good Luck!

Huskies are not used to hot climates. Since they were originated in a cold climate and they have naturally think fur they get hot easily. I personally don think huskies should be kept in Texas.

All dogs pant to cool themselves off, its not a sign of thirst and they sweat through the bottom of their feet.
