I was heatin up something today (an arbys sandwich) and like 20 sconds in it, I saw a big blue flash in the mircowave and I heard a BOOM! it scared me! I'm in my dorm and I have the microwave in here. What does it mean when it flashes? Can I use it again or should I tell someone about it like the residence hall?

If there's no extra metal in it like the foil around the Arby's sandwich, you may have a stirrer or something inside it broken. Try it again, if it flashes, have them give you a new one.

Any thing metal will cause it.Mady u were lucky and didn't damage the microwave. Take a glass of water and put in for 30 sec. and see if it gets hot or warm. No metal even a gold ring around a cup it will cause sparks.

Only the metal rejects the micro waves...so maybe there was some metallic part on or in the sandwich or you put it on recycled paper wich can contain metallic parts. You saw like a lightning right? that was it, discharge through air inside the oven!....try this one: put a lightbulb (only the bulb; without the metallic screw) in the oven...it willl light up!
