My husband and I have a 2 year old Mini-Schnauzer .. he is very "needy". We give him tons of attention .. but it's never enough. If my husband and I touch each other .. the dog flips out and starts barking .. he wants ALL the attention.
My husband was reading the newspaper the other day and the dog started knocking it out of his hand and barking so that my husband would transfer his attention to him. Well, it's never been a problem .. but we are having our first child in July .. and I don't want the dog barking and throwing a fit when we cuddle our son. Is there any suggestions? should we get another dog to help keep him company?

any suggestions would be great! thanks!!

I have a 2 yr old mini schnauzer and have the same exact problem. A friend of mine has a newborn and comes by my house often. At first my dog got very excited and wanted to smell the baby. He was very jealous at first but sat next to me the whole time i held the baby and was an angel. After a while he became accustom but still from time to time would go and sniff the baby. The only time i saw a little aggression is when the baby began to cry and he would bark. At that time i told him NO and he stopped barking. Schnauzers are extremely smart and are used to routine. When the baby comes - try to not leave the dog alone. Make it feel like your new baby is an addition to the family and not a replacement to your dog. You should be fine - he just needs time to adapt and get used to the new routine.

Well heres some dog and parenting advice! Do not encourage the bad behavior with ANY notice! If your dog barks and goes nuts ignore it.Just like when your baby cries for attention you don't give it until they are calm and then reward the calm behavior with all the luv hugs and kisses u can.Make a big deal out of good behavior and act like the bad stuff doesnt bother you at all.It will take consistancy but it will work and the dog will realize calm=love.Getting another will make it worse.Walking a mile a day will help as well.

your dog is going to be very upset when the baby comes. dont ignore him or yell at him all the time. he wont understand. give him as much attention as you can. introduce him to the baby and include him. and yes getting another dog would help but are you going to have time to train another puppy and take care of the baby.
