I am already getting mail from Christian and Jewish groups to boycott this new coin. The prior 2 dollar coins failed, and this one is sure to fail if Christians and Jews refuse to use it because those 4 words were left off the new ones.

It's on the edges.

There was an email out a while back that talked about its ommision. However, the email only showed pictures of the front and back of the coin. It did not show the sides where the words were minted.

There is an article today about some coins missing the phrase but not all of the coins.

Something to think about. If christians and jews are offended by the words not being on there then why do some people wonder why atheists are offended that the words are on there? If christians and jews are offended by the omission, then why would you be offended? If you are offended for religious reasons then that means that the phrase does have a religious meaning and then would therefore be in violation of the separation of church and state.

I heard that "In God We Trust" was around the edges on the new coins. All $1 coins fail. They can't be kept in a wallet and people just throw their change around.

May God Bless you.

Does it matter? I mean seriously, money has the same value nontheless. It doesn't bother me one way or the other. Besides "God" is a noun, not a name. If it makes you feel better, "God" can be nature, your god/desses, the Hebrew god....etc...even the fricken laws of physics. The term "GOD" is simply a generalized word for something above us humans. Whatever that is to you, great.

I would like to think it was because even if there is a God they really don't have anything to do with money. That it would be an offense to identify them with something so materialistic and wordly.

As an atheist I would love to think it is out of honoring the pluralistic ideals of our country. All our public icons should be free from religious reference and instead concentrate on the ideals we all share.

Alas, it was probably neither of these things. They probably saved some money by leaving those words off.

It was a mistake. Mistakes happen occasionally. The "mistake coins" sell for a lot of money.

The Christians and Jews who say that probably don't grasp the concept of "Separation of Church and State." The government is in no way obliged to put "In God We Trust" on any money, and in fact should be encouraged to take it off all money.

I just saw one for the first time, and I noticed that George Washington is very angry. I agree with GW, America is not what she used to be. Let's put "In God We Trust" in our hearts and make us all happy again -- of course it will make the rest of the world angry, but oh well.

Yes, it's on the edges, like it is hiding and ready to leave.

Dear,

You are getting emails from people who don't know what they are talking about. ~sigh~ Someone has an agenda, and that agenda isn't honesty.
