Funny you should ask that! On sunday night I eat a whole big tin of baked beans. I mean, I have heard stories about beans and f.arts but OMG! Enough to run a gas generator for a week. And told my mrs later RROTLFLHTO!

A chemical reaction between the food you eat and your stomach acids create gases, among which is methane(the smelly bit). Some foods are worse than others (protein rich foods like beans - which seems to be a common example - and eggs)
If a food has a particuarly pungent odour and the stomach has not broken it down fully (onions, garlic) then the scent of such items can be carried throught the intestine in what we refer to as 'the silent killer'.
Hope that helps..

many things will give you wind, including pulses such as beans, peas, high fibre vegetables such as broccoli, nuts, fizzy drinks and of course spicy foods. Also eating with your mouth open encourages you to swallow air which also produces gas and eating fruit after meals also encourages wind as it digests quicker than other foods. However, pulses and veg are really good for you, so I wouldn't recommend avoiding them, no matter how inconvenient wind can be sometimes!

Lots of stuff, like chemical reactions in your stomach, and your farts as the product. Eating to fast also make you flitter, this is because you are sucking in all that extra air.
I should prolly start eating my beans a bit slower =/
