If I were you .....I wouldn't get them all done at once. For one thing....if you make a bad decision and pick a crappy artist....guess what? You've won't have just one crappy butterfly...you'll have 8 crappy butterflies. I think you are going to find tattoos are addictive (I have a friend who swears they add something to the ink). I like the idea of collecting.....Get one by one artist.......When you see another artist who's ink rocks...get them to add a butterfly to the mix.....so not only will you be collecting butterflies....you will be collecting artists as well....
I hope this helped

If they're relatively small and in a limited number of locations - four on your back and four down one arm, say, or all of them clustered together in one place - then having them done all at once would be do-able. If they're larger, or very scattered in terms of placement, then I'd think about having them done a few at a time.
My reasoning goes: first off, the length of time it'll take to have them done. Having a tattoo, while not excrutiatingly painful, is pretty uncomfortable. Certainly, having a number of butterflies rather than one big tattoo does mean that you wouldn't have to put up with the discomfort of the tattooing process in any one place for all that long, because the artist would be moving on to other areas. But it would still be a considerable session. Also, from a practical point of view, if they're to be very scattered - say, a couple on your back, some on your arms and legs, one on your stomach, or whatever - then you'll be having to shift around a lot and this may be quite uncomfortable too.
Secondly, the discomfort of healing. If you have one tattoo, then again this is manageable. But if you have eight in different places all healing at once, it could be a bit much. Typically, for a day or two after you have a tattoo done, the area is pretty sore, and then there's a period when it can itch a lot. In one location, this is fine - you just work round it for a couple of days (e.g. sleep on your other side, make sure your clothes don't rub, etc.) But having eight such patches of healing skin, scattered over your body, could be quite testing.
Having said that, it's entirely within the limits of human endurance. It could be done, it would just be more uncomfortable than if you'd spaced out a few sessions. How about having a couple done in one session, and then waiting until they heal properly before going in for the next few - that way, if the first ones need any touching up, you can get it done at the same time?
I hope this makes sense. I know you said you don't want to keep going back and forth - could you explain why? It might help us to answer you a bit more clearly. Because (assuming, as I said earlier, they're spaced out and/or not tiny) I suspect you'd have an easier tattooing experience if you didn't have them done all at once.
I hope this helps - enjoy your tattooing experience, however you decide to do it!

It really depends. If they're small, then just get them all at once. If it's a large piece, then a few sittings is usually required. I've done 7 hour sittings when working on my sleeve. I did my leg in 3 4 hour sittings. It depends on how you feel about it, the size of the tat and your financial situation.

I'd wait, you could get them each from 8 different places, like when you go on vacation or something. It would be pretty cool to be able to say "I got this one on vacation here, and this one over in ___." Otherwise though, I don't see a problem with getting them all the same time.

if it is something small or doable in one session then there is no reason not to get it done all at one time. however for some of us like my husband and myself there is no way we could get all of our tattoos at one time. i have over 18 hours of tattoo time so far and he has about 9. good luck with your 8 butterflies

Getting a tattoo involves damaging your skin. Having too much done at once could make you sick from shock or pain. It would be best to break it up in a few sessions. Talk to your artist, he/she will know what is reasonable for a sitting.

No, it would take forever, depending on how large they are, and if I were you I would do one at a time, you may decide later that you don't want anymore than 1, and trust me once you get one you will want to go back you will love getting them, its a ton of fun! And its not that painful at all!!

I have 4, and I didn't get them all at once. It was over a period of about 5 years. I wouldn't recommend getting them all at once because your taste might change later in life. Besides, if you decide you want more later on, you won't have any room left!!
Good luck!! They are addictive!!!

if the tats are small then yea get them at once, but if they are going to be big then you have to do the back and fort thing. so nothing freaky happens to you. then think if you really want it and it's not just for fun.

I take a year per tattoo so that way I can make sure that's what you want to be stuck on your body!
