I wish I had definite info about the clinic you will be visiting. I'm glad your doctor is sending you somewhere where you can talk to someone with more experience and knowlegde. Chemicals in the brain can make us feel a variety of ways, and whatever your condition turns out to be, this is a positive step in the right direction. Medicine takes a while to work, and you may have to try different ones, or combinations, to find out what is the best balance for you. Keeping a journal on how you are feeling day to day, or even hour to hour, may be a good idea, so you can explain your exact symptoms, annd what makes them better or worse. How much sleep you're getting, how regular is your meals, sugar and caffiene intake, vitamin deficiances can effect how our body reacts, etc. Depression and anxiety are two of the most commen mental health issues, you're definitely not alone there, and ways of improving it are getting better everyday. If it is bi-polar there is a great magazine out called BP, all kinds of info on living well with it. There is a support organazation called NAMI (national alliance for the mentally ill) that has programs for all types of mental health issues, you can locate them on the web, maybe there is a chapter near you. You could get their mailings anyway. Some of the people I know and admire the most have a mental disability. Your diagnosis will be a relief to you, to know the cause of what you're dealing with, it's the beginning of feeling better. Be sure to try to get to the root of the anxiety with a therapist, or counselor, it may not be a chemical imbalence causing all of your problems. You can also try finding support groups online. Good luck : )

Most diagnoses for mental health are done by asking you questions and determining which symptoms you are experiencing. For some things they'll do a brainscan as part of your brain might be overactive compared to another. They may take general samples of blood and such to make sure it's not something else wrong in your health.

It's nothing invasive, so don't worry too much. They're trained professionals who are trying to help and are there to do a job.

Try to interact with them, so it's not one sided, ask them to explain things you don't understand, and ask questions about your condition, they're experts so they'll have great answers.

Lastly, keep in mind that like all medical treatment, if you don't like it you don't have to do it, so when you go if they are about to do something you don't like you can say no.

But don't fret, take deep breaths and take this step towards being an emotionally healthier you.

Good luck.
