In my area they have museums where the younger children can literally explore by climbing over and touching everything, called the Please Touch museum in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Maybe they have something like this in your area. Four year olds also would love a nature walk, bring a book so when he says "what's that?" you can look it up together (this will instill in him a love of learning and reading). You can go to the local park and act like a 4 year old yourself and push him on the swings, etc. and let him push you and pack a picnic lunch or snack. Or just put a blanket over the kitchen or dining room table, get a flash light and some games and go inside and pretend to be camping. Almost anything with a 4 year old can be fun. They are also great at the beach with a good shove and bucket (but be very watchful near the water). Good luck and God Bless.

This depends on what your area has to offer. Do you live where there is a park that is safe for you AND your son to play, together? If so, pack a picnic lunch (kids love that) WITH you and your son BOTH picking out what to take, and go have a picnic. Is there a free zoo around your home? Instead of driving through the next time you have 'fast food', why not go inside to eat, and just chat about the place, your food, and fun things? My grandson loves to go inside fast foods and restaurants that have food he will enjoy. We go to restaurants, where we decide how much we can afford to spend........and we order one order of something and share it. If the weather is good, take your construction paper, safety scissors, glue, and go to your yard, for a time of creativity that allows him to cut, glue, tear, paste, and have fun. Do you live near a museum? You might be shocked at how much little guys enjoy hearing and seeing what kinds of toys other children played with. Do you have a fireman friend, who might take you through the firehouse? Do you live by a lake, river, ocean? Can you gather interesting rocks, shells, things like that in a bag you take? Can you just take a walk, and chat? Little guys love to try to swim. If you are there, beside your son, why not try the local pool? Are there ducks in a pond around your place? Can you take him to see them? (Find out if you are allowed to feed them bread pieces, first). I'm lucky, I live on the Pacific Ocean, in the redwoods. I live a block from the zoo and 2 blocks from the park. Our park has a duck pond where we are allowed to feed the ducks bread. Our playground is right at the park, and my grandson loves to play on all the bars, teeter totters, gym-type play trains, swings, etc.. Sometimes, I let my grandson use my digital camera to take pictures of the animals at the zoo and he loves that! We have a petting zoo with small animals for my grandson to pet, also. I hope your area has many resources that are fun for children! Remember, the most fun thing of ALL will be that you and he are doing something that is just you and your son. After you go, talk about how much fun it was to be with him, and let him enjoy THAT.
