It depends.

Catholics believe suicide when committed in full knowledge and deliberate consent is a complete turning away from God (a mortal sin) and will send a person to hell.

There are 3 conditions of a mortal sin: grave matter, full knowledge, and deliberate consent.

While suicide (or any kind of murder) is always a grave matter, people who commit suicide may not always have full knowledge of what they're doing. Drugs can definitely impair one's thinking, as can other things, such as diseases, intense pain, or anguish.

Therefore, suicide is not automatically treated as a mortal sin.

We are commanded by Christ not to judge others so we leave final judgment to God who alone knows each person's heart.

With love in Christ.

i have one question for you: why are you commiting suicide?
i think that perhaps the motivation behind the action will hold more weight than the action in this case. as after you are dead, you can not ask forgiveness.
you could ask for forgiveness beforehand, but then that is like lying. "i know this is wrong, and i want you to forgive me, but i am going to do it anyway."??? how does that make sence.
i think that the other people on here made some good points though. like giving back your "gift"
how can you say that you believe in god, and then not trust him to have your back when times are tough, or not to help you out of a rutt? how can you say that you believe, and then turn around and do something so desicrating?
denying the holy spirit is an unforgivable sin, and dont you think that by killing yourself, by not believeing that god is there to help you, dont you think that is in a sence denying him?
i wish you luck with this dilema

I had a friend in high school who died six years ago, when we were seniors. I barely knew the guy and yet I think about him practically every day. I don't think you realize the effect that suicide has on people around you, even people you might not expect. I can't give you religious advice, but I can tell you that suicide isn't the answer.

If not then god isn't a very good parent is it? Or even a good being at all... forgiveness is paramount in love, thus parents always forgive their children.

Just to note: I do not advocate suicide as it is basically giving up on yourself... screw religion, you are all that matters... and it should be noted that all the greatest underdog stories involve someone at the bottom of the barrel fighting their way through the mess that is life. Be a hero for someone and don't give up... just my 2 cents.

no where in the bible does it say if you commit suicide you'll go to hell. Its a sin, just like when we use Gods name in vain or have ungodly thoughts. No one knows the heart of man, only God can judge that. I do know that Jesus said in John 14:6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

It is not natural to commit suicide; it is unnatural.
A prisoner cannot go out of the prison house naturally, but somehow or other he arranges to jump over the wall and goes away. Then he becomes a criminal for further imprisonment. That means he becomes again a criminal. He will be arrested again, and his term of imprisonment will be increased, or he will be punished more. So, naturally we cannot violate destiny. But if we do it, then we will suffer.

No I do not believe God will forgive suicide. It is a mortal sin that will not be forgiven. Thou shall not kill, be it yourself or another person. A mortal sin has to do with your soul. There are certain sins that God does not forgive and suidice is one of them.

I think that if you kill yourself is because you do not believe that God can save you, its like denying his help, and saying "i don't appreciate the life that you gave me"...I'm not sure, because I'm not God, but i believe that people that commit suicide can't be forgiven, because they don't ask for it either.
