What if heaven and hell isn't for the afterlife? What if teachings of this theory meant something else? What if finding enlightenment is heaven. Once you are englightened, one views life differently and your eyes are open and you find you have always been in heaven. Being asleep is living life in hell. Being in the moment is the only way.

Koa, I do not think enlightenment is heaven...but I think its the closet we can get to heaven here on earth. Note...its also the top of Maslow's triangle. *WG

Enlightenment is not heaven. Heaven is eternal and heaven is a place. Hell is just as real.

Hinduism purports that there are 33 levels of heaven (etheric realm) and 33 levels of hell (astral) . We are in these realms whether we are embodied or not. That might address what you are speaking of.

Or what if enlightenment is actually just using your brain and realising that religious teachings are a just bunch of bs

I think you make a good point. I believe there is something after death too though.
