I need a dog that is good with dogs, cats, and horses. They have to learn training well, and not be too dominant. I want a dog with a good temperament and can be left alone for a few hours during the day after its' first few months as a puppy. Anyone have any ideas?

I have a Lhasa Apso, she is a hearding dog and is fabulous with cats. I brought her into my cat home when she was 12 weeks old and she fit in perfectly. She has visited my parents home (on a farm with horses, cows, goats etc.,) and she is not frightened. She is great with people, yet she is quite independent. I think she is perfect. But one drawback is you must keep her in a puppy cut or her hair will get matted if you don't brush her every day because her hair grows and grows and grows until it turns up from the floor. Also they don't shed.

I could help you with that, but I wasn't sure what type of coat you were interested in, like if you wanted a dog to brush the dog everyday verses once a week. Try the link below to the animal planet dog breed selector and try the test. Its fun and will help you narrow down your choices. Good Luck! :)

ok, i ♥♥♥♥ my weimaraner, he is EXTREMELY lovable and very good with animals. you can leave them alone for a bit, but they do sometimes get a bit upset if it is for very long, but a few hours would be perfectly fine. i have horses and he has seen, and behaved fine around cats. this type of dog is not at all aggressive, but very lively, though they plop at night and whenever they feel lazy...(mine is lying down beside me now!) Weimaraners are overall great pets. good luck!

Sounds like a Lab or German sheppard, but the sheppard has to be raised with cats around.
