I have created an original comic character. There is no other like it. I want to sell the concept to Marvel or ?. I want to be able to just walk in and put everything on the table. I know if they like the idea they will steal it without a second thought.

You can go to copyright.com and get it done there. If you're going to be going to a big corp like Marvel I'd highly recomend that. Otherwise. as long as you have it written down somewhere, it's technicly copyrighted anyway. Copyright.com has a good listing of copyright laws on it's page

It would be better to get a full copyright, but there is always the poor-man's copyright option. Basically, you seal your idea in an envelope, mail it to yourself, and never open the envelope. That way, you have a postmark on the envelope that proves that the ideas inside were created before the postmark date.

Good luck.

Visit the US Copyright office. Download a form, complete it, send it in with the work along with a fee and voila!
