This is normal and as long as no one gets hurt it will pass.

For some reason the female can get testy if the male hasn't done proper housekeeping. It can also be caused by the male getting too ambitious and wanting to immediately mate just because he coaxed her into the box and she usually won't like that. They will sometimes tussle after mating, usually because he isn't done and she is.

Give them time and patience. She will get more comfortable with him as a mate and you will soon start hearing gentle cooing sounds coming from the box instead of squabbles.

This is not uncommon, especially if this is their first attempt at breeding. Like any young couple they don't really know what they are doing and it is stressful.

As long as it passes without any real damage done to each other, then all will be well and they'll get over it.

However watch carefully. I had a male that when the hen and he started breeding, he would need lots of extra room to fly around. He was fine and sweet most of the time, but once the nest box went up he had to had full run of the breeding room or he would viciously attack his hen and kill his chicks. If allowed to patrol the entire room, he was the perfect father. Go figure.

If they get over the squabbles--which is likely--then don't worry. But if things get out of control you may have to separate the pair.

Are you sure you have a male and female? Sounds like 2 hens to me. I would keep a close eye on them.

As long as neither one is getting hurt, let them be.
