agnosticism, knowing that god cannot be proven to exist, and that he cannot be proven to not exist.

Well I used to call myself agnostic, but in retrospect, that was more to avoid offending my family too greatly (all born again fundamentalist evangelicals who no doubt still pray for me)
I am not arrogant enough to say that I KNOW there is no god, any more than I KNOW whether or not there is intelligent life other than on Earth. I think the chances of there being a god as defined by bible believers is vanishingly small, and the chances of there being intelligent life also small, but statistically more plausible.
It's a big universe, and it is within the realm of my imagination to accept that there could be some creature who could be sufficiently advanced that we may interpret it as a god. Like the "Q" on Star Trek Next Generation, for example.
An agnostic point of view says that we can't possible know one way or the other, and that to commit to either end of the spectrum is pointless. I find that to be a weak, wishy-washy argument, and I have abandoned it for a more traditional skeptical atheist point of view. If you believe something, and want me to believe it, show me a reason to other than faith is all I request.
As far as God of the bible (gods? never sure with that trinity nonsense), or Allah of the qu'ran, or those of the Greeks or the Norse...that is a different subject. I am a 100% hardcore atheist about those gods. In just the same way, and for the same reasons as each of those faith practitioners is atheistic about every other god but their own.

The term 'agnostic' was coined by Thomas Huxley and it refers quite simply to a person who holds the view that it is wrong to assert the truth of a proposition without logically satisfactory evidence.
So, an agnostic would say that it's wrong to say "God exists" or "No gods exist" without the argument or evidence to back it up. Moreover, the agnostic would say that it's immoral for a person to tell someone else that they *ought* to believe in the existence of a god or gods without providing logically satisfactory evidence.
A 'theist' is defined as someone who believes in the existence of a god or gods, so an atheist is anyone who is not a theist.
Note that you can be agnostic and also an atheist, or agnostic and a theist, or not agnostic and an atheist, or not agnostic and a theist.

In simple terms, an Agnostic believes in the existence of 'Maybe'. Most religions, if not all, state things as 'Are' or Aren't', and don't take into account the 'gray areas'; mosat/all religions can see only black and white. In other words, sh*t happens, sometimes without any clear rhyme or reason, and Agnostics can accept this without having to become zealots for any one side.

An agnostic is someone who feels that it is not possible to truly know whether a supernatural being like a Deity exists or doesn't exist. Most agnostics are people who don't feel they need the absolute answer, their lives are complete as they are without having to feel they know for sure either way.

Acceptance of the fact that there is no way to know 100% what the "right" way is.
I guess when I was younger and explaining to people what agnostic was when they asked me...I just always told them that I had way too many questions that could not be explained or answered to be able to believe one thing or another.

i am Atheist but i think i can still answer this. Agnostic means that you believe that God is unknowable, that the human mind can not possibly grasp what God is. Were are unable to truly know what God is.

not exactly agnostic but here's mine
person who believes there is inconclusive evidence to say that there is or is not a god/gods and therefore it cannot be proven either way, at least at present.
