I filed a complaint on a person who wrote me a bad check for $75 in 1996. I know a warrant was issued, but he was never apprehended. Well, according to some aquaintances of mine, he moved back here two months ago from Arizona. Can I still go after my money??

Or could there still be a warrant after all this time?

Your local District Attorneys Office should have what's known as a Bad Check Unit.

If this particular unit does not exist...the DA's office will still be able to direct you to the appropriate office that handles bad checks.

Just for your information, my own jurisdiction does NOT have a statute of limitations on bad check warrants which will stay active until an arrest is made! When approaching the clerk with your question...I was advised they maintain some check warrants issued in the early 1980's which is over 20 years!

Best wishes!

The warrant could still be active. Check with the office that issued the warrant. There is a statute of limitations on most everything except murder, but you would have to check with the justice department to find out what it is.
