Beaverton, Hillsboro, Lincoln City...depends on how far you are willing to travel

I am amused by the people who are answering "Lake Oswego, Beaverton, Hillsboro, and Lincoln City," as none of these places are in Portland!

There are lots of good neighborhoods in Portland. I grew up on the west side, but now live in Southeast, in Sellwood. Sellwood is known for its antiques stores, parks, a small amusement park (Oaks Park), and a couple of golf courses.

It depends on what you mean by "good" - is that suburbia for you or a more colorful and diverse urban neighborhood? I can definitely tell you a "bad" neighborhood is North Portland - more crime in that area. If you want to live close to downtown, Northwest Portland and the Goose Hollow area where I live is great but expensive. Beaverton has lots of bedroom communities, it's a crowded suburb.

The west is the best. I was born and raised on the westside and prefer it better then the northeast side. But if you are interested in the westside I would go out by the Nike area and Bethany Tanasbourne area are all nice, and then
Lake Oswego is nice up in the MT Park area. But if you want a more artsy part of Portland then places like NW 23 and Pearl area are good, and also Hawthorne and Sellwood are all older nicer parts of Portland that are kind of artsy and trendy area's.

If you are willing to go a little farther, I would suggest Beaverton. If you have kids/ teens coming with you move to Murrayhill. It's a REALLY nice place to live!
